Sunday Review is your source for the news in politics you may have missed this past weekend. Here, we’ll provide you the recap of the biggest stories as well as a look to the week ahead.
Well, it’s my penultimate week as politics editor here at The Daily Iowan, and there’s quite a bit of new going on, as always.
We can expect to see three presidential announcements this week. Three hopeful candidates have set up events for this week at which they will make a decision on whether to launch a formal campaign. Most of the time, that decision is yes. Former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson have announcements slated for Monday, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has an event planned for Tuesday.
Here’s a few things that happened last week, to bring you up to speed:
• Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders joined the 2016 race. The longest serving independent in Congress announced that he will seek the Democratic Party’s nomination, for which he will compete against Hillary Clinton.
• Are Iowans forgetting Christie? Not so fast. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will be back in Iowa next month after a long absence from the state he spent so much time in last year.
